Mumbai's central railway (CR) won the prestigious environment and cleanliness shield for having the maximum number of eco-friendly stations in the Indian Railways and for other measures taken to achieve sustainability goals.

With the second wave receding and the number of fresh daily Covid-19 cases on a steady decline, Indian Railways is set to resume services for several trains that have been suspended in recent weeks.Apart from the regular service trains, union minister Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways is also resuming several special trains that were cancelled due to Covid-19 surge.Among the train services being restarted in June, these 13 trains under the Northern Railways will resume on June 15, 2021.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday that there are a total of 2,65,547 positions which are lying vacant across departments. These include 2,177 gazetted posts and 2,63,370 non-gazetted posts in Railways, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

In a written reply on the question of vacancy in railways, Vaishnaw said: "A total of 2,65,547 posts lay vacant, which include 2,177 gazetted posts and 2,63,370 non-gazetted posts." In the Central Railway, vacancy for Gazetted is 56 and for non-gazetted is 27,177. The number of vacancies in East Coast Railway is 87 for Gazetted and 8,447 the minister has informed.

"In East Central Railway, vacancy for gazetted is one hundred seventy and for non gazetted is fifteen thousand two hundred sixty-eight. In Eastern Railway, vacancy for gazetted is one hundred ninety-five and for non gazetted is twenty-eight thousand two hundred four," he also said.

In the metro railway, vacancies for gazetted are 22 and for non gazetted are 856. He further said in North Central Railway, vacancy for gazetted is 141 and for non gazetted is 19,366. In North Eastern Railway, vacancies for gazetted are 62 and for non gazetted are 14,231.

In Northeast Frontier Railway, vacancies for gazetted are one 112 and for non gazetted is 15,677. In Northern Railway, vacancy for gazetted are115 and for non gazetted is thirty-seven thousand four hundred thirty-six.

In North Western Railway, vacancies for gazetted are 100 and for non gazetted are 15,049. In South Central Railway, vacancies for gazetted are 43 and for non-gazetted is 16,741, he said.

In South East Central Railway, vacancy for gazetted is eighty-eight and for non gazetted is nine thousand four hundred twenty-two. In South Eastern Railway, vacancy for gazetted is one hundred thirty-seven and for non gazetted is sixteen thousand eight hundred forty-seven.

In Southern Railway, vacancy for gazetted are 161 and for non gazetted is 19,500 while in South Western Railway, vacancy for gazetted are 65 and for non-gazetted is six thousand five hundred twenty five.

In West Central Railway, vacancy for gazetted is fifty-nine and for non gazetted is eleven thousand seventy-three. In Western Railway, vacancy for gazetted is one hundred seventy-two and for non gazetted are 26,227, Vaishnaw said.

The Railway Minister has also said that in Other Units, vacancies for gazetted are 507 and for non gazetted is twelve thousand seven hundred sixty.

He has informed Rajya Sabha that occurrence and filling up of vacancies is going to be a continuous process and the same is filled by the placement of indents by Railways with recruitment agencies as per operational requirements.
